Ohio Gas Prices Reach 2009 High 5/22/2009 7:43:45 AM | Ryan Haidet Ohio Memorial Day travelers are paying the highest gasoline prices of the year. advertisement Going into the long holiday weekend, the statewide average for regular is $2.44 per gallon, according to auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express. Prices have jumped about 10 cents in the last week and have risen from less than $2 a gallon in late April. Gas is going up because refiners have cut back production in response to a supply glut that kept prices low earlier this year. Also, there are seasonal factors: Americans drive more in summer, and laws require different, more expensive gasoline blends this time of year. Still, gasoline is a bargain compared to last year at this time, when Ohio motorists were paying nearly $4 a gallon for regular.
