AUDIO Final Act: Carousel Theatre Faces Closure 1/2/2009 1:07:51 PM | Lindsay McCoy Employees at the Carousel Dinner Theatre may take their final bows this weekend. On New Year's Eve, employees say they were told the theatre would shutdown soon. advertisement WEWS News Channel 5 reports the theatre is closing its doors, but the owner has declined to comment when it will happen. Akron Deputy Mayor Dave Lieberth explained it was not secret the entertainment venue was facing financial trouble. Lieberth noted that with consumer spending down, and a variety of other activities in the entertainment market, the theatre wasn't seeing as much revenue. "The dollar that's being spent on live entertainment is shrinking and so people who would spend dollars on live entertainment, are being more cautious," Lieberth added.
The owner is expected to make an official announcement Monday. The theatre employs more than 150 people.
"We trust the owner of the theatre will announce a plan for any transition that is to occur," Lieberth said.
Many tickets for the 2009 shows have already been sold.

I would encourage all businesses to move out of the city of Akron. posted at 1/5/2009 7:59:07 AM (4061) skylar.sutton said:I would argue it has less to do with the location and more to do with the show selections. They've picked acts that target the 75+ crowd. Try selecting acts that a younger audience would enjoy and they might have sold more tickets.
