Could Cooey Have Another Chance?
 10/9/2008 3:25:28 PM  |  Craig Simpson

It hasn't happen, but rumors are abound that convicted Akron murderer Richard Cooey's lawyers may join another case calling the death penalty cruel and unusual punishment.

Ruben Rivera's criminal case has been delayed while he fights the execution procedure. Prosecutors have charged him in the 2004 shooting death of Manuel Garcia. If convicted he faces the death penalty. His co-defendant, Carlos Ortega, of Cleveland, was convicted of aggravated murder in January 2005 and sentenced to 27 years to life.

Rumors indicate Cooey's lawyers are looking at intervening in the Riviera case and join the 9th District Court of Appeals case. Whether that will happen remains to be seen.

Cooey is scheduled to be executed next Tuesday, October 14th.

Does Cooey's lawyer have kids or grandkids? Maybe he should give that some thought. Or maybe no woman wants to be near someone who goes out of his way to free a loser from the punishment that he deserves. He really deserves worse!!

Its cruel and unusual punishment for us to have to continually hear about Cooey's nonsense. He did the crime, he was sentenced (YEARS AGO) and now time is up. Who cares if what he's perceiving as cruel & unusual punishment actually exists? He'll be dead. That's what the death sentence is all about - a deterent to doing what he did. We shouldn't have to keep these monsters warehoused - that is cruel & unusual use of tax money.
