Akron FOP Lodge 7 Votes On Issues 10/7/2008 12:27:05 PM | Tina Kaufmann The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 is endorsing issue 9, but not issues 7 and 8. advertisement Members unanimously voted to support issue 9, which would let voters decide whether they approve a sale, lease, or transfer of a City utility.
But, the FOP Lodge is against issue 8 and 7. Issue 8 would establish a scholarship fund through the sale or lease of the sewer system; Issue 7 would remove civil service protections from the Clerk of Council.
In a press release, Paul Hlynsky, President of the union, explains why they're against sewers for scholarships, "there are too many unanswered questions and ambiguities about the proposed program that our members decided they could not endorse such an endeavor." They endorsed the right issue. Why are the Board of Education, the Chamber of Commerce, and The Beacon Journal all being so stupid. There's only one obvious, yet painfully true answer, the mayor has them in his back pocket. Not one of these institutions has the integrity or courage to stand up to Plusquellic. They're too afraid of his power, wrath, and storied vindictiveness. Thank you, WAKR, for your continued fine reportage. If you wish to leave a comment, please log in or register.
