Wilderness Center's Nature Preserve Cemetery Open 8/5/2008 11:18:05 AM | Tina Kaufmann The Wilderness Center (TWC) is the first conservation organization in the nation to develop a nature preserve cemetery, Foxfield Preserve, located about one mile from their satellite property near Wilmot, Ohio, in Stark County. advertisement The preserve will have only natural burials, sometimes called "green burials," on land covered in forest and prairie grass. Foxfield Preserve is open and ready to serve the public. Foxfield Preserve's completely legal and eco-friendly, natural burial includes a biodegradable container, such as a shroud or wooden casket. There is no embalming. It is the true 'dust to dust' form of burial. One of the benefits of a natural preserve cemetery like Foxfield Preserve is that is provides a wildlife habitat. A visit to Foxfield will be a visit to a nature preserve. Natural eadstones and native plants can be used as headstone markers.
Foxfield Preserve provides an economical, environmental alternative to modern burial. As a nature preserve, Foxfield maintains a clean water shed, clean air and walking trails. It also saves on the cost of vaults, metal caskets and embalming. It is the only natural burial preserve in the state of Ohio.
As a final resting place, Foxfield supports wildlife, the environment and nature education. It's a great way to leave a legacy. Proceeds from Foxfield Preserve will be used for TWC's endowment, land conversation and education.
