A ribbon cutting ceremony today for the first of four 25 unit town house complexes planned for the new Spicer Village next to the University of Akron campus.

Phil Maynard, CEO of ASW Properties Limited the company building the project, says the first of the four buildings is complete with two fully furnished models now open at the corner of Brown and Power Streets.

Maynard says the construction features environmentally friendly materials and is virtually maintenance free with a lot of green space.

The University of Akron is offering an incentive for full-time university employees to purchase the town houses. The University is offering a $10,000 loan to help with the downpayment. The loan would be forgiven would be forgiven over a five year period.

Maynard says all four buildings should be complete by September with a starting purchase price of 170-thousand dollars for some of the town houses . The City of Akron, University Park Alliance, The University of Akron and Summa Health System have partnered to build the town houses for area residents who want to be part of the new very upscale and unique neighborhood.

Phil Maynard says he's optomistic that the Spicer Village project will serve as a catalyst for additional private investment in the area.
