Hemera/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- Investors didn't have much love for the markets on Valentine's Day.
 
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down nine points and stayed below the 14,000 mark, at 13,973. The Nasdaq Composite closed up two points at 3,199, while the S&P 500 gained just a point to finish the session at 1,521.
 
The Dow has been fickle in recent days. The index hasn't had a three-day rally since Jan. 25.
 
Meanwhile, USAirways shares fell 4.6 percent following the announcement that the airline is merging with American Airlines to create the world's largest airline.
