Hemera/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- Just hours before President Obama delivers his State of the Union address, major U.S. stock indexes closed higher.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded above 14,000 for much of Tuesday's session, ending up 47 points at 14,018.70. The S&P added two points to close at 1,519.43.
The Nasdaq Composite, however, lost six points, dragged down by sliding technology shares. The index closed at 3,186.49.
Investors Tuesday waited for the President to give his State of the Union address, which many expect to push Congress to take action regarding the economy.
Coca-Cola's 4th quarter earnings came in lower than expected. The soft drink maker earned $1.87 billion, driven by international growth.
 
The government's raising its forecast for gasoline prices this year, following an 11 percent increase since the middle of December. It's predicting pump prices will average $3.55 a gallon, up 11 cents from its forecast in January.
