YouTube to Initiate Paid SubscriptionsLOIC VENANCE/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- YouTube is getting ready to start making you pay to view certain video content.  The video sharing site will begin experimenting with paid subscriptions this spring, according to AdAge.
As the plan stands now, you wouldn't have to pay for crazy cat videos -- and thank goodness for that. But you would have to pay if you want to see certain channels that promote original content.
YouTube, which operates as a subsidiary of Google, has asked a small number of channel producers to submit ideas for episodes that people might pay between $1 and $5 a month to watch. It's unclear which channels will take part in subscriptions first. The site is also thinking of charging to watch certain live events, certain advice videos or do-it-yourself programs.
The cat videos are safe -- for now.
