Jobless Claims Drop to Lowest Level in Five YearsSpencer Platt/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- Jobless claims continued to fall last week, dropping by 5,000 to hit the lowest level in five years, according to the latest figures released Thursday by the Labor Department.
For the week ending Jan. 19, the number of people filing for benefits dropped to 330,000 -- the fewest since January 2008.  The previous week, claims stood at 335,000.
The four-week average also went down, decreasing by 8,250 to 351,750.
