Newsweek Says Goodbye with Final Print IssueKAREN BLEIER/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- As 2012 ends, so does Newsweek. The magazine issued its last edition Monday after almost 80 years of print.
The last cover shows the Newsweek building with “#LASTPRINTISSUE” over it.
Newsweek announced in October that it would be going digital-only in 2013 and would be part of the Daily Beast, an online news site that launched in 2008.
The magazine’s readership had declined in recent years. For the first half of 2012, its circulation was 1,527,157, compared with competitor Time magazine, which had 3,276,822.
Newsweek is the first national news magazine to announce it is moving to the digital space.
