Medioimages/Photodisc/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- Stocks closed the day and the week mixed as Friday's report from the Labor Department surpassed expectations.
 
The Dow closed up 81 points at 13,155.13. The Nasdaq, dogged by worries about declining Apple Inc. shares, lost 11 points and closed at 2,978.04. The S&P 500 gained four points to close at 1,418.07.
 
The Labor Department says hiring was steady in November, despite superstorm Sandy's disruption.  Companies added 146,000 jobs, and the unemployment rate fell to 7.7 percent, the lowest in nearly four years, down from 7.9 percent in October.
