CHARLIE SHEEN WANTS TO MENTOR LINDSAY LOHAN _ Charlie Sheen is reaching out to Lindsay Lohan. The Anger Management actor thinks that he can 'save' the troubled star, saying that he has a 'kinship' with her and would like to act as her 'mentor'. As the flame-haired actress gears up for her trial later this month, Charlie clearly thinks she needs all the help she can get, and he's the man for the job. Sheen says, "She can continue to hang out with her dress shredding club buddies, or turn to me for some advice from a guy who's been down the road as well as every other side trail on the journey. If she listens, she'll win. If she doesn't, that's on her."
JACK THE GIANT SLAYER WINS BOX OFFICE _ The mega-budget action fantasy movie Jack the Giant Slayer landed with a thud at the North American box office, making an estimated $28 million. The movie's cost was in $200 million range.
THE HOBBIT MAKES $1 BILLION _ As of this past weekend, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has now brought in more than $1 billion worldwide -- only the 15th title in film history to surpass that figure.
FALLON REPLACING LENO? _ The Hollywood Reporter's says Jay Leno may be retiring. According to "two high-level industry sources", NBC will announce in May that Jimmy Fallon is replacing Leno in 2014. While the network still denies the rumor -- the possible change was first reported last December -- the sources explained the rationale is in part the result of stiffer competition for a younger audience.
... Sources believe NBC will bring in Fallon partly out of concern about the competition on ABC, which moved younger-skewing Jimmy Kimmel to the 11:35 time slot in January. Leno's Tonight still performs well for NBC, regularly besting his late-night rivals. But Kimmel is competitive.
HEIDI KLUM TO JUDGE AMERICA'S GOT TALENT _ A couple of sources say supermodel and former Project Runway host Heidi Klum will be the fourth judge of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, along with Howie Mandel, Howard Stern, and newcomer Mel B. Sharon Osbourne quit at the end of last season.
2014 WINTER OLYMPICS COULD PUSH OSCARS TO MARCH _ The Oscars could be moving -- but just down the block. NBC has the Winter Olympics from Russia starting February 7th and ending Sunday, February 23rd -- the day the Oscars would usually be broadcast on ABC. But no one’s going up against the closing ceremonies. And that puts the Oscars in a bind. CBS is likely to announce a January 26th Grammy Awards, one week earlier than usual. And the rest of January is locked up. NBC will put the Globes on January 11th, no doubt. The SAG Awards already commandeered January 18th, and the Directors Guild locked in the for the following weekend.
... The Oscars would likely be moved to March 2nd.
DON PARDO MISSED SNL AFTER SUFFERING BROKEN HIP _ Don Pardo was conspicuously absent from the opening credits of Saturday Night Live over the weekend -- because he recently suffered a broken hip. A source says he's doing fine. Pardo has been doing Saturday Night Live since the show first premiered in 1975, missing only one season along the way.
MILEY CYRUS AND LIAM HEMSWORTH HAVE NOT BROKEN UP _ Despite what you may have heard about Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth possibly having broken up, the rumors are not true. There were reports floating around about Liam cheating on Miley with Mad Men actress January Jones, but apparently that was just a media misunderstanding.
ADELE SIGNS UP FOR NEXT JAMES BOND THEME TUNE _ Just a week after winning an Oscar for Skyfall, Adele has signed up for the next James Bond theme tune.
CAMILLE GRAMMER CONSIDERING LEAVING REAL HOUSEWIVES _ Camille Grammer plans to leave the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills once the reunion has been filmed because she feels like she’s no longer able to do anything in private without having a camera right in her face. The reality star, who was voted the most-boring castmember out of all the girls, has already told producers on her wish to leave, and they’re not stopping her.
SHIRLEY MACLAINE RETURNS TO DOWNTON ABBEY _ Downton Abbey has lost a few and gained a few. Sybil, Matthew and O’Brien are gone. But coming to the Abbey are a bunch of new people and one familiar face. Shirley MacLaine is returning as the American mother of Lady Cora (Elizabeth McGovern), Martha Levinson. Meanwhile, Mary gets two suitors -- Julian Ovenden and Tom Cullen will play the men vying for her hand since Matthew was literally kicked to the curb. There were will be a few others, including the great British actress Harriet Walter as a friend of Maggie Smith's Dowager Countess.
MODERN FAMILY STARS WERE TRAPPED IN AN ELEVATOR _ Three Modern Family stars had to be rescued by the Kansas City Fire department Friday after getting trapped in an elevator for an hour. Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson were on their way to a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel, but got delayed when their elevator broke down. While trapped, the actors snapped a photo of the ordeal and posted it on Twitter while waiting for firemen rescue them. The Kansas City Fire Department freed them after about an hour and the threesome made it to the event -- which they were headliners for -- an hour late, but full of "hey we just got stuck in an elevator" jokes.
ELLA-PAIGE ROBERTS CLARKE DENIES DATING JUSTIN BIEBER _ After Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez went their separate ways, it was rumored that the teen singer was dating 17-year-old aspiring model Ella-Paige Roberts Clarke. Rumors keep coming out that attach Ella-Paige to Justin, but she was quick to hop on Twitter to issue a denial. It was said that she spent the night with Justin on the night of his birthday party after their group was turned away from the club for their underage members. Justin was said to have emerged from his hotel room wearing a fresh set of clothes, but she was seen exiting wearing the same thing that she did when she arrived. Ella-Paige retweeted a pal who said, "So I just read a newspaper article about exactly what you think I'm talking about and it was so ridiculously untrue I actually reeled. Are they just allowed to invent things?"
