Oklahoma Author Dies at 62 12/12/2008 4:26:39 AM | Toni Cicone Johnny C. Quarles, an Oklahoma author who wrote more than 12 novels set in the American West, died Sunday. He was 62. advertisement His books included "Fools Gold,'' "Black Creek'' and "The Run.'' Quarles was born in Warren, Ohio, and later moved with his family to West Virginia, where he attended East Bank High School, and New Mexico.
