AUDIO A Spiritual Evening With Psychic Sonya
 9/29/2008 8:46:51 PM  |  Katie Young

As a psychic cynic, I was not expecting much from someone who goes by the title Psychic Sonya. Well, I was in for a surprise...

Sonya says that she discovered her ablilities when she was five-years-old and is a clairvoyant psychic, a hand trembler, a dream interpretator and a tarot reader.

For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about...According to Sonya, clairvoyant psychics have the ability to hear ghosts and hand trembling is a Native American practice that is used to read your aura and your health.

Sonya makes it very clear that her specialty is convincing spirits to cross over to the light therefore, cleansing locations of hauntings.

Along with house calls, Sonya offers Haunted Cleveland Tours in a number of locations in Cleveland.

The three tours she is featuring are the "Urban Legend Tours" of the Cuyahoga Valley, the Cleveland Haunts Tours, and the Medina County Cemeteries Tours.

When I visited Sonya, I got a private, condensed version of her Cuyahoga Valley Tours. Instead of her usual bus tour, I was surprised with a hearse tour. Yes, I had to ride in a hearse. Believe it or not, that was just the tip of the iceberg for surprises the evening -- and Sonya -- had to offer.

The meeting place was the Cuyahoga Valley Visitors' Center. This is a very old and haunted location, which is haunted by a couple that was seperated by the Civil War. People report seeing a man and a woman on either side of the canal walking back and forth together. Sonya says that they don't cross the bridge to be together, because ghost can't cross over water.

The next stop is the Wilson Feed Mill. This mill is still open, so it is not available for ghost tours. But, Sonya's buses stop outside as you hear the ghost stories. According to Sonya, the same family has owned the mill for over 100 years. The mill is apparently haunted by its previous owner, James Alexander.

After the mill, we got to stretch our legs at the Frazee House. This house was by far the spookiest stop and offered the scariest stories and pictures. In fact, Sonya had a picture of a little boy with his hands and face pressed against a window of the house with an angry looking man standing behind him. The scary part - the house was empty when the picture was taken. This house seems to have a few stories of hauntings, the one that Sonya pointed out was that of an African American man who was lynched in the house's front yard. She said that he still does haunt the house to this day.

The other high point of the evening was a visit to one of the parks in the Cuyahoga Valley. Besides the beautiful scenery, Sonya shared stories of Native American burial grounds and Bigfoot. This visit was during the day, but she does lead her bus tours through this park at night, which I would truly find terrifying. She said the burial ground had been desecrated years ago.  You can actually see its remains when you visit this location.

As we drove through the area Sonya also pointed out where a woman who was believed to be a witch lived, along with a haunted asylum, and a bridge that is the location of the most suicides in Summit County.

I am sure you are still wandering what it was that changed this psychic cynic into a believer. Well, after a long conversation and many stories, the catalyst in the change of beliefs was when Sonya showed me her Native American hand trembling talents. When I asked her to describe it to me, she decided she would show me instead. I was a little nervous at first, but after the first couple seconds, I realized I was not in any physical danger. Here is how it went - First, she had me hold her medicine bag in my left hand and place my right hand over my heart, then I put my right hand out and she began to hold her hands over and under mine. As she did this, I felt this heat radiating off of her hands when they were not even touching mine. That's it, that's all she had to do to read me. This technique is said to be passed down by ancestors and is not something just anyone can do. As I mentioned earlier, Sonya was able to read my aura and personality traits that come with it, along with my body's health.

It was my first psychic experience where they were almost completely accurate. I found it thrilling and the heat coming off her hands could not be explained, it was way above what any living human's body temperature should be. Although, Sonya made me shed my cynicism, you will not see me running into the next psychic stand I see. She was the real deal, but that does not mean that these people are easy to find. For now, I will just stick with Sonya the next time I need to be proved wrong.
