Top of the Charts

In 1978 a disco song, written and performed by the Bee Gees first appeared on the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. Producer Robert Stigwood wanted to call the film Saturday Night, but singer Robin Gibb expressed hesitation at the title. Stigwood liked the title Night Fever, but was wary of marketing a movie with that name. He combined the two suggestions and the idea for Saturday Night Fever as a motion picture was born.

This and That

Let's NOT Get Cancer

"Life's Simple 7" is a list of rules that, if followed, can slash your risk of dying from cancer or heart disease by up to 50%. In fact, just following six will do the job. Here are the 7...

1) Be physically active
2) Keep a healthy weight
3) Eat a healthy diet
4) Maintain healthy cholesterol levels
5) Keep your blood pressure down
6) Regulate blood sugar levels
7) Don't smoke

Meet 6 of those factors and reduce cancer by 51%. Meet 4 and reduce your risk by 33%, or two and reduce it by 21%.

The chart was originally compiled by the American Heart Association to prevent heart disease until research proved it also prevents cancer.

Quitting smoking is a biggie. In fact, a Canadian study earlier this year found that those who give up smoking by age 44 can live almost as long as those who never smoked.

Advice on Kids

Our child's doctor has plenty of great advice, but our biggest problem is following it! A University of Michigan study found that only a third of parents follow the advice of our child's pediatrician all the time. 13% say only occasionally.

We seem to listen to our doctor's advice when it comes to nutrition, going to the dentist and using car seats, but we ignore the experts when it comes to discipline, putting the child to sleep, and watching TV.

Facebook/Phones: Will you confess a well known "child no-no" that you've let slip through the cracks? Ours is letting our child watch television --before the age of two! Yep we did! And his head didn't explode, thank goodness. We're just hoping he doesn't grow up to steal cars because he watched The Wiggles when he was 9 months.

Dress Sale

A collection of dresses once worn by Diana, Princess Of Wales has sold at auction for more than $1.2 million. The midnight blue Victor Edelstein gown the late royal wore when she famously danced with John Travolta at a 1985 state dinner at the White House was the top draw at the auction, selling for $362,470, while two Catherine Walker dresses, including a beaded black design Diana donned for a Vanity Fair photoshoot, raised $163,091 each. The outfits were among 10 Diana costumes to go under the hammer in London on Tuesday.

Creep Out Alert

There are spiders big enough to eat bats, and they live on every continent in the world, except Antarctica. The so-called "bat-catchers" can snare bats in their huge webs or, in some areas, just chase them down. They’re mostly in the tropics but can be found in warmer areas of North America. Yow!

Too Good To Be...Not Recalled

Lululemon Athletica says it may recall its accidentally produced see-through yoga pants. Lululemon's iconic black yoga pants have "a bleeding dye issue." The result is yoga pants that are, as one newspaper put it, "sheer, very sheer, as in see-through."
