In 1981, after 19 years presenting the CBS Evening News, Walter Cronkite signed off for the last time. "The most trusted man in America" reported many events from 1937 to 1981, including bombings in World War II; theNuremberg trials; combat in the Vietnam War; Watergate; the Iran Hostage Crisis; and the murders of President John F. Kennedy, civil rights pioneer Martin Luther King, Jr., and Beatles musician John Lennon. Cronkite set the standard for National news anchors in America. It is a standard that has not been surpassed.
