SCORE TWO AT THE Q!

The hottest ticket in Northeast Ohio Is for Cleveland Cavaliers basketball at Quicken Loans Arena, and there's no hotter ticket than the home opener when the Cavs welcome the New York Knicks to the new-look Q basketball floor.

Want to buy tickets? FORGET ABOUT IT! They sold out in minutes, but the Akron home of Cavaliers basketball has JUST the ticket for a chance to share in the excitement of the LeBron II Era as Number 23 returns to the Wine and Gold.

Register below for your chance to win a pair of tickets to see the new Cavaliers in action on Opening Night. We'll pick qualifiers every day through Monday October 27th and announce them on the air during the WAKR Ray Horner Morning Show, WAKR Jasen Sokol Show and WAKR's Average Sports Show.

Qualifying prizes include a $25 dining certificate to Luigi's, celebrating their 65th Anniversary as Akron's legendary pizza and a special edition 1590 WAKR Cavaliers shirt.

The Grand Prize winner will be selected by WAKR Average Sports show host Brad Russell during his show on Tuesday, October 28th.

Oliver

Meet the sweet and extremely neglected Oliver ... so sweet ... so deserving of a home ...

Are you 55 years or older or are you a veteran that is 55 years or older? You may qualify for funding of the adoption fee for a senior pet(s). Call 330.760.0763 to inquire.

Left at the shelter at 10 years-plus of age.  Oliver is a good boy and has the typical appeal that all deserving dogs have ... soft fur, sweet eyes, irresistible ears and because of his very unfortunate past, some very, very submissive behaviors :).   You may as well know it up front ... Oliver is a bit nervous and concerned for his future.  In fact, at this point he lacks a bit of confidence and appears to have been very neglected.  No middle aged or senior dog should have to find themselves in a shelter in their golden days.  Don’t delay … please consider giving Oliver his best days!

Note: Please keep in mind that all adoptable pets need time to decompress once they enter a home. For some it will happen quickly and for others it might take a few weeks. You'll want to be understanding of what they have been through and their level of insecurity. We ask that you treat all of them as if they were an 8 week old puppy. Assume they know nothing and begin at step one. You'll soon know what they are capable of and what behaviors you will need to kindly work on with your new family member. It's called commitment! And, that's what these pets want more than anything!

Bobo

Our dog of the week …

Beagles are my FAVORITE!!!!  Meet Bobo ...

Gotta love a Beagle ... we do! They are fun and ornery and they will entertain you forever. They are perfect in size and in temperament. And, most people don't know that they are the best cuddle bugs ever! Bobo is no exception... he is a great little dog and will do fine in any home - busy or quiet. Because he is perfect in size - and cute too - he won't be here long. Containment is Key to keeping them safe because a Beagle's nose will take them just about anywhere. And that is probably why he ended up here. Don't delay ... adopt Bobo today!

Sophie

Our dog of the week …

Meet tiny Sophie.  She's just perfect ... and she wants to go home ... what is she???  Dachshund mixed with Jack-Russell??? She’s a lap dog for sure and allowed us to cuddle her but trembled when we returned her to the kennel L.  Don’t delay … let’s give Sophie back her life today.

Note: Please keep in mind that all adoptable pets need time to decompress once they enter a home. For some it will happen quickly and for others it might take a few weeks. Sweetie

Our dog of the week …

Meet Sweetie ... her name is fitting because she was just that sweet to work with!  Adorable too.  Sweetie has been “owner identified” but has not been picked up from the shelter.  This happens for a variety of reasons.  Every time I have observed her, she is quivering and shaking as she waits.  Don't delay ... give this deserving girl her next home today!

Greyson

Meet Grayson …

So fun ... so sweet ... so good-looking!  Grayson doesn’t show well behind a kennel door or crate.  He looks and acts fierce in this environment but he is a complete love-bug and doll once he is taken from the kennel!  He is adorable and fun and enjoyed his stomach rubbed while laying belly-up in a submissive and vulnerable position.  It is not uncommon for dogs to want to show their “might” when in the shelter.  After all, if they don’t act fierce and confident, another dog might take advantage of them.  Don’t delay … give this HANDSOME boy a home today.

Avery

Our dog of the week …

Meet a shelter favorite … Avery.  Her story is somewhat complex and it involves her heart but we can make it right …

If anyone knows this so-called breed, they know these dogs prefer YOU over any toy or treat and with YOU is right where they want to be. These terriers are labeled because of a set of physical characteristics and were the Golden Retriever of the 1960s. Do you remember Petey in The Little Rascals? Petey was of the Pit Bull family. All dogs need kind and patient training to become the pet that they were born to be - and training at any age is an advantage to some extent. Like the many others in the shelter, our terriers show some concern for their where-abouts and want to go home. Many of them are quite young and still have a lot of living to do. Can they do it with you? Don't delay ... let's not leave these loving and deserving dogs in the shelter another day : (.

You'll want to be understanding of what they have been through and their level of insecurity. We ask that you treat all of them as if they were an 8 week old puppy.
