Police have an Akron man in custody after allegedly breaking into a church.

Officers arrested 24-year-old Ramaine Porter after he allegedly forced open a first floor window of The Chapel of Prayer Baptist Church on Brittain Road.

Police say Porter then entered the church and stole a computer and $300.00 in cash.

Porter was identified from a fingerprint after detectives conducted an investigation at the church.

Police followed up and located  Ramaine Porter  at his home. He then gave the officers consent to search the home and officers recovered the stolen items.

He was charged with Breaking and Entering, Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was booked into the Summit County Jail.

Akron police have caught two men suspected of breaking into a gas station Tuesday morning.

Corey R. Hoffman, 18, of Tallmadge and Ryan W. Ogden, 21, of Akron were arrested for breaking and entering.

Police said surveillance video showed the two suspects using a brick to smash through the front window of a Shell gas station on Tallmadge Avenue.

When the two suspects were arrested, officers found blood on Ogden's right hand. Hoffman was also found with a towel covering his right hand.

Suspected Copper Bandits Face Charges

Three suspects were caught red handed overnight in Akron when police say they broke into vacant homes and attemped to take copper pipes.

The Akron Police Department reports Terry Collum, 23, Brandy Fernwalt, 18, and Jack Godfrey, 25, all three of Akron, are all facing breaking and entering charges for individual incidents, among other charges.

Here's rundown from the incident reports:

  • A witness told police they watched as Collum and an accomplice break into a home in the 1700 block of Adelaid Blvd. in Akron. Police say they tracked down and arrested Collum shortly after he ran under the E. Market bridge near Brittian Road.

 

  • Police found Fernwalt, 18,  inside a vacant house in the 800 block of Sherman St. attempting to take copper pipes.

 

  • Officers arrested Godfrey, 25, was caught just a few doors down from Fernwalt, inside a vacant house at 884 Sherman St. Police say he tried to steal copper pipes.
