And today, the anticipation is over. Bow Wow Beach Dog Park is officially open. advertisement "We've got the three acre lake, which is the main feature of the park. And because of the lake being frozen, we had to wait until it completely thawed before we could open for the season and that has finally happened," says Stow spokeswoman Linda Nahrstedt. It's a hot spot, attracting thousands of visitors last year. "People come from Stow but also the surrounding areas. You can go out there on any given day at any given time and see numerous people and numerous dogs just having all kinds of fun," says Nahrstedt.
Nahrstedt thanks the group of 35 committed volunteers who help keep the dog park running.
"They unofficially patrol the park and kind of keep things in line. They work hand-in-hand with the city administration in planning for future improvements and capital projects in the park. In 2009, they raised close to $10,000 to help us out with those efforts."
But not just any pup can go to the dog park. There are many rules for pet owners to follow. For starters, dogs must be leashed until they're in the park, there are age requirements and if you have an aggressive dog, you'll have to keep the pooch at home.
Some of the rules at the park are new and have been implemented after the incident in which a small dog was attacked and killed in 2008. Bow Wow Beach Dog Park is located in Silver Lake Park.
