ECONOMY SERIES: AUDIO Stopping Stress In Its Tracks 3/18/2009 7:55:35 AM | Lindsay McCoy From juggling jobs and numerous responsibilities to dealing with unemployment or personal harships, the state of the economy is having an impact on stress levels many carry around each day. advertisement "Write it down, get it on a piece of paper and don't try to make sense of it initially," McGowan said, "use that list, to decide what are the things that I can take care of sooner than later."
He used the example of receiving phone calls regarding credit card debt. His best tip: make the move to contact the company for help. "It's very hard to do it, especially now," he said, "we're at a very unusual time and we're not used to so many people being stressed." More of McGowan's Tips: Communicate: The goal is to stay away from people who complain and find the crowd or person who seems more realistic and optimistic. "It may be hard to find these days, but be around folks who are what you want to be like," McGowan said. Exercise: "Do anything, rather than nothing," McGowan advised, "you'll get your energy up, you'll get your endorphins going and that will certainly help you psychologically." Avoid Alcohol: While alcohol sales are up in the current recession, McGowan stressed that it's not really a laughing matter. It won't help with sleep, he said it causes exhaustion. "It's easy to go have a beer or a glass of wine, but you have to be careful," he warned, "you don't want to over-do that, that does not help you in the long-run," he said. Content © AkronNewsNow.com.
