VIDEO Pancake Trash Talk
WAKR's Ray Horner and I are in Arizona, covering the 2010 start of the Indians spring training season. But the big competition is coming from behind the scenes, where a stretched stomach can be a badge of honor.
There's a dustup in the desert brewing -- right along with several pots of coffee. Indians broadcaster Jim Rosenhaus will be trying for the third consecutive year to unseat defending pancake-eating champion Tim Alcorn of WEOL in Elyria.
It may not be a pretty sight, but we will be reporting with video just as we did last year when Alcorn ate half of west Phoenix at the Black Bear Diner.
Now the Black Bear is a throwback; a real breakfast-lover's paradise. None of this wimpy haute cuisine here, and certainly no skimpy portions. In fact, the Black Bear is known for their cinnamon rolls, literally giant globs of gooey dough topped with ski slopes of sugar frosting.
Both Alcorn and Rosenhaus are up to the task. Rosey's been training while Alcorn exudes supreme confidence borne of championships.
