"For board membership, we seek individuals who are deeply committed to the institution's mission," said Hiram College President Thomas V. Chema. "Tom, Olivia and Doug are exemplars of leaders who are prepared to give their time and talent to keep Hiram among the nation's most respected liberal arts colleges."

Harvie recently retired as the senior vice president for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. He joined the company in 1995 as vice president and general counsel and was elected senior vice president in 1999 and secretary of the company in 2000.

Prior to joining Goodyear, Harvie served TRW Inc. as vice president and associate general counsel. Before his TRW career, he was an associate in the New York City-based law firm of Debevoise and Plimpton.

Harvie is a graduate of Stanford University and Yale Law School. He is a trustee of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Cleveland Opera, the Akron Art Museum and is a member of the Blossom Board of Overseers.

Garfield is active in her community at the Polytechnic School of Pasadena in her hometown of Pasadena, Calif., where she has volunteered since 1995 and has been a substitute teacher since 2006. She is also a member of the Botanical Board at Huntington Gardens.

With a bachelor's degree in music and psychology from Williams College and a master's degree in music education from Boston University, Garfield has committed her career to the field of education. From 1981 until 2000, she worked at various times as a high school math teacher in New Labanon, N.Y., as a substitute teacher in the Boston public schools, and as a piano instructor at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music.

Garfield continues Hiram College's connection with the family of James A. Garfield with the addition of another direct descendant of the former President to the Hiram College Board of Trustees. She is the cousin of Rudolph "Bob" Garfield, an emeritus trustee of the institution.

Hardman leads Booz Allen Hamilton's global operations where his areas of expertise include operations strategy, supply chain management, and smart customization of operations to better manage complexity. The company is an international technology and management consulting firm with more than 20,000 employees on six continents. Prior to Booz Allen Hamilton, Hardman served in leadership positions with Frigidaire and White Consolidated Industries.

Hardman is a 1980 graduate of Hiram College and earned an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. He has served Hiram as a member of the advisory council for the Center for Deciphering Life's Languages.
